One of the effective tools in doing that is conjunctions and their meanings. Conjunctions in Persian cause brevity in discourse, and among them “vav” (and) is highly important. In this research, the potentials of this conjunction, its various and numerous functions in the creation of meaning, and artistic innovation in the structure of literary and rhetoric texts will be explored. Obviously, the approach adopted in this research is a semantic one, and not grammatical. In this article Seventeen functions of “vav”, for example, elimination, interpretation, conclusion, quality, causality, emergency, and … will be studied and documented using sufficient examples. The main question is that “what were the different meanings of “vav” in ancient texts, and how knowing these meanings can help us with understanding, and interpreting these texts?” This research is a detailed and authentic answer to this question. زبان فارسی از حیث گستردگی و غنا، یکی از زبان‌های مستعد برای بیان معانی از جهات و جوانب گوناگون است. یکی از ابزار کارا در گستردگی و غنای آن، استفاده از حروف و معانی حروف است. حروف در زبان فارسی سبب ایجاز در کلام می‌شود. در این میان، حرف «واو» اهمیتی ویژه دارد. در پژوهش حاضر، ظرفیت‌ها و قابلیت‌های حرف «واو» و نقش‌های متنوع و متعدد آن در معنی‌آفرینی و ابداع هنری در ساختار متن های ادبی و بلاغی کاویده شده است. بدیهی است رویکرد تحقیق معطوف به دانش معانی است، نه منظرهای دستوری. در این مقاله به هفده مورد از انواع «واو» از قبيل «واو» حذف و ايجاز، «واو» تفسير، «واو» نتيجه، «واو» تسویه و برابری، «واو» تعلیل و فوریت و... پرداخته شده و با ارائۀ نمونه‌های کافی، مستند شده است. پرسش اصلي تحقيق اين است که حرف «واو» در متون قديم چه معنا یا معناهایی داشته است و دانستن معناي «واو»، چه کمکي در درک و فهم متون به ما می‌کند؟ تحقیق حاضر، پاسخ مشروح و مستندی به پرسش یادشده است. http://literature.ihss.ac.ir/fa/Article/Download/10279
