Based on the American Robert Merton’s (1901– 2003) “Theory of Opportunity” this research studies different types of personality and behavioral disorders within this novel. According to Merton’s theory, social problems are the result of the gap between desirable goals of the society and the ways of achieving them. By describing the desirable goals for their members, societies can also introduce their solutions and strategies; however, when there is a gap between goals and the institutionalized means of reaching them, deviation and disorder will occur. According to this theoretical model, “Ghale-Morghi, the Pyramidal Age” represents an image of a society that has determined the same accepted goals for every one; but choosing between the possible ways of reaching them is related to individual’s social status and class. Although the main character of the novel begins to discover new ways by means of Promethean rebellion; at the end, he finds no choice other than isolation and letting go of the goals.. رمان «قلعه‌مرغی؛ روزگار هرمی» نوشتۀ سلمان امین، یکی از رمان های موفق جامعه گراست که به یکی از معضلات اجتماعی خاص، یعنی بیکاری و عواقب آن توجه‌ کرده است. این جستار بر مبنای نظریة «فرصت» رابرت مرتون (1910- 2003) انواع نابهنجاری‌های رفتاری و شخصیتی را در رمان مزبور واکاوی کرده است. مطابق نظریة مرتون، مشکلات اجتماعی نتیجۀ گسست میان اهداف پسندیدة جامعه و راه‌های دست‌یابی به آن است. جامعه با تعریف اهداف ارزنده برای اعضای مرتبط با خود، راهکارها و راهبردهای خویش را نیز عرضه می‌کند؛ لیک آنگاه که میان اهداف و وسیلۀ نهادینه‌شدة تحقق آن فاصله ایجاد گردد، انحراف و نابهنجاری رخ می‌دهد. بر اساس این الگوی نظری، رمان «قلعه‌مرغی؛ روزگار هرمی» تصویری از جامعه‌ای ارائه می‌دهد که اهدافی یکسان و مقبول برای همه مشخص کرده است، اما استفاده از روش‌های تحقق آنها، به پایگاه و طبقۀ اجتماعی افراد بستگی دارد؛ چنانکه شخصیت اصلی رمان با عصیانگری پرومته ای خویش، به کشف راه‌های جدید روی می‌آورد، اما سرانجام چاره‌ای جز فراموشی اهداف و انزوا نمی بیند. http://literature.ihss.ac.ir/en/Article/Download/10389
